Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, January 2007


OK, this Screech Owl was outside at the National Zoo, but the rest are from Blackwater.


There were many Grackles


Even this does not capture the numbers


These Red-winged Blackbirds were watching the Grackle commotion. There are three females and one male in this shot.


It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods.


A Turkey Vulture taking off.


A Northern Harrier sees its prey.


And grabs it!


It's winter enough that there aren't many insects - here is one exception.


A Bald Eagle swoops in, and...


...lands to take a drink.


We did see one Golden Eagle taking a drink, but I believe this is an immature Bald Eagle.
